Using your bursary for a Neon activity 2026/27

Neon bursary FAQs

Neon brings future STEM careers to life. With Neon you can find quality-assured activities, inspiring case studies and career information. 

Visit Neon

  1. sign your bursary agreement (sent via Juro) to accept your offer – please see the agreement for the signing deadline

  2. share the date you set for your activity by emailing bursaries@eukeducation.org.uk

  3. deliver your Neon activity and complete our feedback survey by 30 July 2027

  4. your school should raise an invoice after delivering your activity and submitting the feedback survey. We must receive your invoice by 1 October 2027.

Payment is dependent on delivery of the activity, completion of the survey, and receipt of your invoice by the deadlines. If payment after your event is a barrier to your school completing the scheme, please email bursaries@eukeducation.org.uk to discuss.

Your bursary can be used on the Neon experience you specified in your application. This includes:

  • Activity - the direct cost of a Neon activity (for example paying for a workshop or competition entry fees)

  • Travel - transport to a Neon experience

  • Staff - teacher or technician cover costs

  • Kit - kit to enhance the Neon experience (including materials for projects or competitions)

We have offered your school a bursary to be used on the Neon activity specified in your application. If you can’t take part in that activity, please email us on bursaries@eukeducation.org.uk so we can support you to find a suitable alternative.

EngineeringUK offer bursaries to our priority schools, which are schools more likely to have students from groups underrepresented in engineering and technology. We offer bursaries to reduce financial barriers and support you to take part in a Neon activity.

A key aim of our bursary schemes is to inspire all young people into STEM careers, not just those who already have a passion for science and engineering.  Please ensure that all students are encouraged to participate, not just those already interested in engineering and technology or other STEM careers. We are particularly keen for schools to include the following groups (who are underrepresented in engineering and technology):

  • girls (at least 50% or proportionate to your student population)

  • disabled young people and those with special educational needs

  • students from UK minority ethnic backgrounds, including in particular Black, Black British, Caribbean or African young people

  • those eligible for free school meals

EngineeringUK will reimburse your school after you deliver your activity, fill in our feedback survey, and send your invoice. Bursaries are paid to your school, and we do not pay suppliers or providers directly.

The invoice must be from your school, we do not pay suppliers or providers directly.

The bursary is not VAT applicable, and you do not need to provide an itemised invoice. You can see an example of an invoice here.

Please ask your colleagues in your school office, finance department or bursar to help if you are unsure on how to raise an invoice.

Please email bursaries@eukeducation.org.uk as soon as possible if you can no longer take part in the scheme. We have a limited number of bursaries to offer, so if you will not take part, we can offer the bursary to another school.
