Helping teachers bring climate change solutions into the classroom

A new series of short CPD videos is now available to help teachers explore solutions to climate change with students. The videos give practical guidance on teaching climate change through hope, action, engineering and future careers.

The videos support EUK Education’s Climate Schools Programme, which offers free resources, activities and lesson plans for 11 to 14-year-olds.

A solution-focused approach to climate education

Climate change is important to teach, but it can also make young people feel anxious or overwhelmed. The Climate Schools Programme takes a different approach by focusing on mitigation, adaptation and real-world solutions.

After taking part in the activities, 7 out of 10 students reported feeling more hopeful about what we can do to tackle climate change. This positive focus runs through the new videos, which help teachers connect climate learning with engineering and technology careers.

What the CPD videos cover

The series of 5 videos, around 2 minutes each are designed to be quick, practical and easy to use alongside existing classroom resources. Teachers are introduced to the Climate Schools Programme and its solutions-focused approach to climate education.

The videos explore how to explain net zero clearly, including the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and balance any remaining emissions through removals. They also cover practical examples such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, low-carbon fuels, carbon capture and nature-based solutions.

Teachers are supported to respond to climate misinformation in constructive ways. The guidance encourages classroom discussion, critical thinking and an approach that helps students recognise misleading tactics.

The series also connects climate learning with future careers. It highlights the role of engineers and technicians in areas including renewable energy, energy storage, retrofitting buildings and low-carbon infrastructure.

By bringing these ideas together, the videos help teachers show students how STEM skills can contribute to a greener future.

We encourage you to create an atmosphere in your classroom that welcomes debate and dialogue. So if a student questions the reality of climate change, you are able to turn it into a positive learning moment.
